What is project management?
In our definition, project management is - "A holistic management approach to implement change and create a new product/service/result within a specific time frame."
Project management can be applied to any projects regardless of size, budget or timeline. Some examples are:
Developing a new product or service
Running a political campaign
Building a highway or bridge
Implementing a new information system or an ecommerce website
Sending a probe to Mars etc.
Without the advanced tools, techniques and methodologies we have today, people created project timelines, located materials and resources, and weighed the risks involved. These early ideas were the precursors to a set of management techniques we now know as "modern project management."
The discipline of project management plays a key role in the competitive, global business arena. Savvy customers demand more and better products and faster services. Time-to-market pressures force greater efficiency. Organizations need individuals and teams with solid project management knowledge and skills. Modern organizations are finding that project management provides many advantages - not the least of which is a more attractive bottom line!
More than ever, professional project management has found its place in today's competitive global business arena.
